DESCRIPTION
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law on July 4, 2025, reshaped the tax landscape for charitable giving in ways that will play out through 2026 and beyond—and most fundraising professionals are still catching up. This session is designed to give participants a practical, accessible understanding of what changed, what it means for their donors, and how to talk about it.
Jim will walk through the major provisions—some of which, like the return of the universal charitable deduction, open real opportunities for donors and the organizations they support—and then shift to the part that matters most for fundraisers at any experience level: how do you communicate this? What does it mean for the mid-level donor who doesn't itemize? For the major donor whose deduction calculus just changed?
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand today’s giving landscape, including internal and external factors shaping it
- Explain the key OBBB provisions affecting charitable giving to donors at the everyday, mid-level, and major donor levels in plain, accessible language
- Identify which giving vehicles (DAFs, bunching, QCDs) are most relevant for different giving levels and articulate their benefits in conversation
- Apply a communications framework for proactively reaching out to donors about changes that may affect their giving
- Connect tax policy changes and broader sector trends, including the Generosity Crisis, to their own organization's fundraising strategy
Full participation in "Giving In the Age of One Big Beautiful Bill" is applicable for 1 point in Category 1.B -Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
